By combining art with raw materials found in nature, young people are inspired to take better care of their environment.
For anyone wondering what environmental art is… it’s an artistic movement inspired by nature and the beauty of raw materials. At Kingswood, we are surrounded by green fields, woodland, lakes and, with being in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (OANB), a wealth of opportunities to create environmental art. Young people become more aware of their environment, when seeking out raw materials for art, and the importance of looking after the planet.
Art fosters creativity, it’s a wonderful outlet for young people to tap into their imagination, and it also calms busy minds. This Children’s Art Week, we’re waving the flag for environmental art and encouraging young people, with the summer holidays around the corner, to create their own art from foraging in their surrounds.
Spending time outdoors significantly improves well-being and mental health, something we are passionate about supporting at Kingswood. According to the Mental Health Foundation...
"being immersed in nature, can generate many positive emotions, such as calmness, joy, and creativity”.
Here are some of the brilliant environmental art a junior group created at Kingswood, using items they found on our grounds:
Part of the Inspiring Learning group, Kingswood are committed to advocating outdoor learning and making a positive change to the environment.
